Blackpool Cats in Care is a dedicated rescue run by a small team of passionate volunteers who work tirelessly to help cats and kittens in need. From abandoned and stray cats to those requiring medical treatment or extra care, every cat that comes into their care is given the chance of a brighter future.
The rescue plays an important role within the local community, providing support for cats in a wide range of situations. Some arrive frightened and alone after being abandoned, while others have been found as strays, born outdoors, or are in need of urgent veterinary treatment. Every cat is treated as an individual and receives the care, patience and attention needed to give them the best possible chance of a happy future.
During 2025 alone, Blackpool Cats in Care helped more than 550 cats and kittens through a variety of rescue and welfare initiatives. Their work included rescuing and rehoming cats and kittens, assisting with neutering programmes, reuniting lost cats with their owners, and carrying out Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) programmes for feral cats. These efforts not only improve the lives of individual cats but also help reduce the number of unwanted litters and support responsible cat welfare throughout the area.
Many of the cats that arrive at the rescue have faced difficult circumstances, but through patience and dedicated care they are given a second chance. Whether it is a frightened stray learning to trust again, a vulnerable kitten needing round-the-clock care, or an older cat looking for a comfortable retirement home, Blackpool Cats in Care is there to help.
The rescue relies entirely on the kindness and generosity of supporters, foster carers, adopters and volunteers. Every donation, every share on social media, every foster home and every successful adoption helps make their work possible. Together, these efforts help ensure that more cats and kittens can receive the care they need and find the loving homes they deserve.
Cat Crimes was created to celebrate the funny, mischievous and often chaotic side of cat ownership while supporting a cause close to our hearts. Inspired by the real-life antics of rescue cats and much-loved family pets, each Cat Crimes character has their own case file, aliases, charges and evidence, turning everyday feline mischief into a light-hearted collection for cat lovers of all ages.
While the characters may be fictional criminals, the message behind the project is very real. Cat Crimes was designed to help raise awareness of Blackpool Cats in Care and the incredible work carried out by their volunteers. Through collectable badges, character profiles and community participation, the project helps introduce more people to the rescue and the cats who are still waiting for their forever homes.
Every badge discovered, every story shared and every visit to the website helps spread the word about rescue cats and the importance of supporting local animal welfare organisations. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, foster, adopt or simply tell others about the rescue, your support helps make a difference.
Most importantly, Cat Crimes reminds us that every cat has a story worth telling. Behind every mischievous face is a unique personality, and behind many rescue cats is a second chance made possible by the kindness and dedication of people who care.
Behind every rescue are volunteers who cares deeply. While there are many happy endings to celebrate, rescue work can also be emotionally challenging.
The volunteers at Blackpool Cats in Care experience every emotion imaginable – joy when a frightened cat learns to trust again, excitement when a family falls in love with their new companion, and relief when a lost cat is reunited with its owner.
Sadly, not every story has the ending everyone hopes for. Despite the team's dedication, there are times when illness, injury or circumstances beyond anyone's control mean that a cat cannot be saved. These are the moments that stay with volunteers long after the day is over and serve as a reminder of just how important rescue work is.
Through both the successes and the heartbreak, the volunteers continue to give their time, energy and compassion to cats who need them most. Their commitment never wavers, and every cat that passes through their care is treated with kindness, dignity and love. It is because of people like these volunteers that so many cats are given a second chance at life.
Unlike many larger rescue organisations, many of the cats helped by Blackpool Cats in Care are cared for in volunteer foster homes rather than traditional rescue pens. This means cats can experience the comfort of a real home environment while they wait for their forever families.
Living in a foster home allows volunteers to get to know each cat's individual personality, habits and needs. They can learn whether a cat enjoys the company of other animals, prefers a quiet home, loves attention or would be happiest as the centre of someone's world. This helps ensure that cats are matched with the most suitable adopters possible.
For many cats, especially those who have experienced neglect, abandonment or difficult circumstances, a foster home can provide the stability, patience and love needed to rebuild their confidence. It also allows kittens to grow up in a family environment, helping them develop into happy and well-socialised companions.
Most importantly, foster homes give cats the chance to simply be cats again while they wait for the next chapter of their lives to begin.
